You may have heard the term ‘micro wedding’ going around, as it has become a MAJOR trend in recent years. As a Wedding + Elopement photographer, I’m here to tell you all about them and why they’re amazing. A micro wedding is basically exactly how it sounds. Think Wedding, but with a much smaller guest list – typically just your closest friends and immediate family. Not to be confused with an elopement, check out my “What is an Elopement” blog to compare the two!
So, let’s get a little more ‘micro’ here on what exactly a micro wedding is. (See what I did there?). It lives somewhere between an elopement and a traditional wedding. The size of the guest list can totally vary here, there are no hard numbers. I’ve seen micro weddings with as few as 5 guests, to as many as 50! It’s all about creating a guest list, then narrowing it down to your closest loved ones. There is something about having your main people surrounding you celebrating your love – and not having to worry that people from a vast guest list, some you may not even know very well, are getting along.
The great thing is, you can still have all the special things you dreamt of for your wedding – just on a much smaller scale. A smaller guest list means you can potentially save on things like catering, table decor, and so on. On the other hand, some couples choose to use the savings elsewhere to make it an even more extravagant experience for their small guest list. Sometimes less really is more! You can essentially have all the same elements and vendors as you would for a traditional wedding, just with fewer moving parts.
There are so, so many benefits to a micro wedding + reasons why people love them. Many couples find a mico wedding to be much less stressful, and easier on the wallet, and a huge plus is the overall much-more relaxed vibe. You’re more likely to remember all the small and romantic moments if you’re not running around like a crazy person making sure everything is running smoothly as you would with a huge wedding.
Have you ever been to a wedding where you barely saw the couple because they have so many guests to greet and conversate with? Well, this allows time to enjoy your day with your closest loved ones, and give your attention to the ones who really matter most to you! This leads to more bonding time, time to share stories, and more intimate and romantic moments.
Keeping things small allows you to relax and have the day really focused all around love. As a photographer, I absolutely love this type of setting as I love capturing those very intimate moments.
