Do you Tip your Wedding Professionals?

The answer is yes, it is customary to tip wedding professionals who have provided exceptional service on your special day. It’s never expected, but it is always appreciated! Here are some general guidelines for tipping:

  • Wedding Planner/Coordinator: 10-20% of their fee, or a separate cash gift
  • Catering Staff: 15-20% of the total catering bill, or a separate cash gift
  • Bartenders: 10-20% of the total bar bill, or a separate cash gift
  • Hair Stylists and Makeup Artists: 15-20% of their fee
  • Officiant: A donation to their church or synagogue, or a cash gift of $100-500
  • DJ/Band: 10-20% of their fee, or a separate cash gift
  • Photographers and Videographers: A cash gift of $100-200 per person, or 10-20% of their fee

Of course, tipping is always discretionary, and it’s up to you to decide whether and how much to tip each professional. If you’re unsure about whether or how much to tip, you can always ask your wedding planner or coordinator for guidance. Or just ask the professional what their “average” is when it comes to tipping.

*TIP! Many of us have tipping as an option in our invoicing but we do prefer cash/Venmo/Zelle (so we aren’t taxed on it!!)
